Are There Any Good Albums From 1973?

My brothers and I were raised on music. Lots of people were. We are not alone in that way. Shut up Chud. Get to the point. I’m getting there! I have been exposed to more music than I will ever fully appreciate in my lifetime. A lot of that music I have tried to appreciate because of their “classic” nature has never really resonated with me. I try to keep a wide variety of music in my playlists, but I have noticed a strange gap in my taste. I didn’t seem to listen to anything from 1973. I thought this was odd, so I tried to see if there was an album from that year that I could really dig. I looked up the top albums of that year and decided to give them a listen to see which one that I would throw into some of my playlists. What I found was...disappointing. I understand that this will be shocking and even offensive to some people, but here are some of the classic albums that came out that year, and ultimately my surprising favorite.

The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle - Bruce Springsteen

Sorry. You aint the boss of me, Bruce. Pass

Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye

One good song….that about covers it. Pass.

Raw Power - The Stooges

Search and Destroy is decent, but I find their whole sound annoying after a while.. Pass.

Aerosmith - Aerosmith

I’m not gonna change the station if “Dream On” come on, but I have yet to listen to that song on purpose yet. Pass.

Pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd - Lynyrd Skynyrd

I can definitely groove to “Gimmi Three Steps”, but it does not make up for having the most boring song in the world following it: “Simple Man.” Pass

Quadrophenia - The Who

Sorry dad. This album makes me sleepy. Pass.

House of the Holy - Led Zeppelin

It was okay. A couple songs are alright but as a full album, the good songs are canceled out by D’yer Mak’er. Pass.

Aladdin Sane - David Bowie

Really thought this was gonna be the one. All the songs just kinda ran into eachother and there was nothing to get excited about. Pass.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

I am not a Pink Floyd fan. I get it. I respect them as talented artists and trailblazers, but in my personal life all they did was make the Wizard of Oz boring for me one time. Pass.

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John

I can’t deny the hit-machine this guy is. This really seemed to be his crowning achievement for a while. This is going to remain in my regular listening rotation until Andrea finally snaps from me constantly yelling “BENNIE!” or “SATURDAY!” WINNER!!!

These may be a harsh judgement, for these albums, but I'm not trying to find something I like right now. I'm looking for songs that will improve my life right now. I gave up pretending to like music I'm supposed to like long ago. You may think I'm very wrong about this, but I've been putting a lot more stock lately in the pieces of art that make me happy, and Elton John seems to do that for me right now. Not bad, 1973.
